Living with Mental Health
Having a mental illness is difficult, not only for the person concerned, but it can also be very stressful for their family and friends.
Mental illnesses are some of the least understood conditions in society. For many with mental health problems, it is not a single event or a certain type of instance that can lead to the development of their problems. It is more often the case that a series of events have occurred, which has eventually triggered the mental illness.
Many people suffering from mental illness face prejudice and discrimination in their everyday lives. Support networks become very important for those people and for people who do not have close friends or families, or who do not live near the people who support them and may be finding it increasingly difficult to cope alone.
Whether you suspect, or know for certain, that a member of your family or a friend has a mental health problem, you will probably find that it helps to learn about the disorder.
As well as our own Lotus Centre and Mind Activity Centre (MAC) which offer community support programs, including job and life skills, rehabilitation and social development projects. Below we have provided additional links to organisations that offer assistance on a variety of mental health issues. We hope some of these may prove useful.
